Charlie:
From James in Dearpark, he writes to us. James has an Atrium in his house Tom and he says, “I was thinking about closing it up. It’s an open space in the middle of the house. How would you recommend doing this? Is a skylight better than a roof for that space?”
Tom:
Most people when they close in their atrium’s actually use a translucent roofing material to let light in, but keep it water tight. Skylight gives you that really intense light for one little square all day long that moves around the room. It really doesn’t give you that nice even quality light that an atrium would give you because usually when you have an atrium you’ve got windows to it, so you can bring light into the middle of the house. Those translucent roofing systems actually work really well. I’d call Ideal Roofing to ask Jim Hardwick about some of his options.
