Charlie:
Paul in Kingwood wants to know: On Saturday, you had a caller asking about living off the grid. He said he probably needed a generator if he wanted to have air-conditioning, and all that. There is a new device, that supplies all the energy for a home, including AC. It helps your children to grow strong, the sun to shine, and America to stay free, a shining city on the hill. But seriously, this guy wants to know if you’ve ever heard of this device, the MT, Mighty Grin, or something. M-TRIGEN, I think is … I don’t know how you pronounce it.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
It’s a generator/air conditioning, heating system. It will take some of the heat that air-conditioning or heater uses, and make more electricity out of it. It’s got some clever ideas behind it, but it’s still on the grid. You still have to have natural gas, and you still have to have electricity to your house, because it’s not going to take care of everything. It’s going to be very hard for people in Houston, to ever be completely off the grid, because of the fact that we have tons and tons of air-conditioning. In California, they can get off the grid with solar, and with some other devices, because there’s no air-conditioning. You’re talking about lights, and they’re cooking on a wood stove out back. It’s a different lifestyle.
Charlie:
Creppers.
Tom:
Whatever. They heat their water in a bucket. It can be done, but not in Houston.
