Podcast: Play in new window
Charlie: Bobby in Willowbrook has a … I wish I could remember this. I would say, “How come they can’t remember this answer”, if I could remember the answer, though. He wants to know the formula, Tom, you’ve given it out a hundred times, for the solution for cleaning wood cabinets.
Tom: 2 parts mineral spirits. 1 part boiled linseed oil. Buy it boiled. Do not boil it on your stove.
Charlie: (laughs)
Tom: (laughs) People have done it. “Tom, I was boiling it and it was all over the place.”
Charlie: “I saved a fortune buying it unboiled.”
Tom: It’s the same stuff, Charlie. It’s the same linseed oil you break your mitts in, your baseball gloves.
4/0 steel wool. Go ahead and make the mixture. Apply it with the steel wool. If you spill any, or you get a lot somewhere, you have to wipe it up with a rag, take the rag, saturate it in water, and put it in a Ziploc bag and throw it away because it will instantaneously combust if you lay it around too long.
