Charlie:
I’ve got one from Donald of Magnolia for you, Tom. He says he had 4 feet of water in his house.
Tom:
Ouch.
Charlie:
Yeah, that’s deep. How do I get rid of the mold and mildew now?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
You got to tear out the sheetrock, I think the rule is about a foot to 2 feet above where the water line was. Remember, sheetrock comes in 4 by 8 sheets, so if you can do it increments of 4 feet or 2 feet, that’s the best way to go. Then it’s dehumidifiers, fans, and spraying with mildewcides, which could be as simple as bleach and water, or they have some more industrial strength stuff on the market including even a product called Consan Triple Action 20 which is used quite regularly too. You have quite a few choices with that one, but it has to be taken care of. Some aren’t as toxic with the fumes like chlorine is toxic.
Charlie:
Sure.
Tom:
Some are a lot easier for you. If you’re going to be spraying chlorine, make sure you have a lot of open windows and stuff.
