Podcast: Play in new window
Charlie: Fred writes, “When a foundation company does the digging around your slab, do they fill the holes with concrete, or soil, or what?”
Tom: Soil.
Charlie: Just good old dirt?
Tom: Yeah, they’re not going to fill a hole with concrete. Now if they have a dig a hole out of your slab, you said around the slab was the question, but through the slab, or through a driveway or something, they’ll do dirt to the bottom of it, then they’ll do concrete on top obviously to patch it. No, they’re going to fill it with dirt.
Charlie: Same with a tunnel if they’re tunneling underneath?
Tom: They do fill it with dirt too. There’s nothing else you can really fill it with, although I know our sponsor, [Due West ] has a special blend of dirt.
Charlie: Super secret.
Tom: Because I don’t really know what it is. If I did I would tell you. It is a certain blend that’s a little more stable.
Charlie: We could tell you, but then we’d have to cut your head off and lock it in a vault.
Tom: They already have. This is not my head.
Charlie: It explains so much.
