Charlie: John writes to us that, “I’m going to start building a new house.” And he’s wondering, “What grade of electrical wiring would be best?” He says, he’s heard of shielded and Romex, can you shed some light on the difference, and which he should use?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: For a house, it’s always Romex. Romex is a tried and true wire. It will probably last longer than all of us listening to the show right now, in fact, I’m pretty confident it will.
Shielded wires, for commercial, we use it in our welding shops, and things of that nature, or in office complexes. As far as your home go, the Romex is fine. It’s all in the electrician, how neat he is, how organized he is. I mean some of these guys, if you get a good one, it will be done just like the space station, but the Romex is for homes.
