Do you have a checklist for window replacement contracts?
Jim
Tom: I think the first thing is is like any of my rules is make sure that that’s what they do. There is a lot of contractors out there that can replace your windows but they really aren’t window replacement experts. There is a real art to window replacement without having to tear up the brick, tearing up all the siding, tearing up all your sheet rock on the inside. It can become an absolute nightmare. Dealing with a company that has factory trained installers, I think, is probably one of the most important things.
You’re looking at warranty on the windows and your selection of windows because there is a lot of them out there. It’s not just vinyl replacement windows anymore. You can get the composite windows, which are really state of the art. You can get any configuration, opening, pattern, different energy efficiency rating. You need to deal with someone who is in the window replacement business for a long time and understands everything about it and educate you in the process. Of course, make sure that they have good installers. I really can’t stress that enough because I have seen just horrendous jobs done with people who say they can replace windows and they don’t know how to do it.
