Hi Tom, I currently live with my 84 year mom in a 2 story house built in 1978 by Perry Homes. Beginning in 2000 we have had at least 12 pinhole leaks in our pipes. We have had a few small sections of pipe replaced but most have been fixed with clamps. In 2011 we had the hot water heater replaced along with a section of copper pipe. At least 10 of the leaks have been downstairs between the floors and recently there have been 4 pinhole leaks in the same area just in the last few months. Our plumber recommends replacing the pipes (of course) but we have heard you talk about relining the pipes with epoxy. Do you still have a favorable opinion of relining and if so, what type and can you recommend someone in our area of town?
We are in the Southbelt – Scarsdale area that is just outside Pearland (and not too far from Pasadena). Also can you recommend a sheetrock repair person? We really don’t have anyone to help us with this house that is falling apart so it would be great to get a name of someone reliable. We had to have the house leveled 1-1/2” years ago and we still don’t have the cracks repaired! We love your show on 610 and your newsletters.
Thanks so much.
Melissa
Tom: You got a couple of issues here. One is, I think it probably is, you have to call the people over at Texas Drain Technology. Have them look at it. Make sure the pipes aren’t too far gone. I don’t think they are. I also would like you to step back and look at all the money you spent fixing these things and anybody listening out there, don’t keep fixing them. If you start getting one leak, it’s time to address it, don’t start going through the process of fixing that ans sheet rock and everything else, because it’s going to cost you more money in the long run. Now, if they can reline them, here’s the other issue. You said you live with your 84 year old grandmother, or mother, excuse me, or grandmother, for that matter grandmother.
Charlie: Thank you.
Tom: The bottom line is, it’s hard for people to move out and have their house torn up. It’s gonna be a lot easier for a person just to move out for a day or live without water for a day or make some arrangements and then get back into the house. It’s so much easier for people that age.
