There it is. So now we’re connected and we can close it back up.

Hi there. It’s Maureen with Ohana Garage Doors, and today I’m going to teach you how to open your garage door when either the power’s gone out or the opener’s just not working. So I’m going to teach you how to disengage your opener and then reengage it.

So let’s start with disengaging it. You’re going to find the red cord. This is connected to a trolley inside the rail, and that’s what connects your door to your motor. So you’re going to give it a good pull and now it’s disengaged. It’s going to be pretty easy to open because you’ve got these big springs up here. So open it on up, and there you go.

Now you’re going to want to get it closed. So what do you do? So we’re going to go back over here and you can see that it is hanging down, but we’re going to want it to go the other direction. We’re going to snap that towards the house and that’s going to reengage it. And we’re just going to hit the button and let it catch back on. So you’re going to see when it catches.

There it is. So now we’re connected and we can close it back up.

So there is one time where you do not want to pull that string, and that’s when the door is open. If you pull that string and the door is open and there’s a problem with the door, it can come crashing down and that’s a bad day. We don’t want that.

All right. Now I want to show you a different kind of garage door opener. It’s a very common one. So let’s go up to the string. To disengage it, you’re going to go ahead and you’re going to pull the string down and lift it up. All right. Okay. And now we’re going to want to reengage it. If I pull towards the house, that’s not the way to go. In this case, I want to pull straight down.

Pull my string straight down and now I am going to be reengaged.

Let’s try it. Ta-da. Works like a champ. So if you have some problems with that, it isn’t working, or you’re just not able to get your garage door open at all, then it’s definitely time to call the experts at Ohana Garage Doors.
