Charlie: Mike from Westbury has one for you, Tom. It’s not a question, he says really, but a warning. He was getting ready to do his electric plan, and he noticed a new trick that’s going on. He says he looked at all the rates, the really low rates there for the base charges, with base charges as high as $150 for 1,000, 2,000 kilowatts. And, he got to the second page of the results before he started finding more affordable plans. And, he says the ones back there average about $50.00. And he says, “Be sure to check the fact sheet.”
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Oh, always. You know, I just got, I switched a couple weeks ago. I just received my first bill. Now, the bill was only for 21 days.
Charlie: Right.
Tom: Okay. $33.00.
Charlie: Yeah. We changed-
Tom: That was it. Total.
Charlie: Yeah, I’m a convert thanks to you to that powertochoose.org site we got to. And, that’s where we shop. It came up, and it was easy peasy lemon squeezy. I just went on there, looked at them, hit the button, bang there we have a new electric provider.
Tom: Absolutely, and you always should read all of the facts. Some of it gets confusing. But, the bottom line is is the cheapest are at the top. Look at the amount of months. I’m a 12 month guy, so I’ll always look at to one year. And, just go with that and you’ll be fine. Don’t get over, don’t overthink it.
Charlie: I’ll tell you the best thing ever happened to us when we started doing that, was when we changed from our original provider to start doing this hopping services from year to year, I got a call from our provider who is a landlord to a major sports venue here in town.
Tom: That’s fine.
Charlie: And, I don’t want to cause any trouble by mentioning NRG by name, but anyway we … oops. Anyway, they called [crosstalk 00:01:39]-
Tom: They own some of the other ones that are cheap, so, it doesn’t matter.
Charlie: I know. I know, exactly. But, they called up and they’re like, “You know, we can give you a lower rate.” I say, “Why haven’t you?”
Tom: Yeah, no kidding.
Charlie: So, anyway.
Tom: No, you got to be buyer beware on this one.
Charlie: You got to move around.
Tom: You can really … electricity is cheap.
Charlie: You got to move around to save money is the bottom line. But, like Mike says, be sure to read everything, those fact sheets and everything when you’re going through the electric rates.
Tom: Absolutely.
Charlie: Okay.
