What causes the black spots on my bathroom mirror, and can it be fixed?

Stacy in the Houston Hospital District has a large bathroom mirror with the edges turning black and would like to know why, and if it can be fixed.  We went straight to the doctor,  John,  at The Glass Doctor for help.
