Does the brick in my fireplace have to be removed for a gas leak?

Phil in Deer Park, Texas has a leak behind the brick in his fireplace and wants to know if he needs to remove the bricks to fix.  Lee, our HomeShow Pro at Lord’s Chimney has some answers for him.
