Are weep holes required in the city of Houston at the top of brick veneer walls, or are weep holes at the base above the slabs sufficient?

Charlie: Bob from Champions, he writes in, “Are weep holes required in the city of Houston at the top of brick veneer walls, or are weep holes at the base above the slabs sufficient?” Do you have to have them at both sides?

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom: No. You don’t put them on the top. I’ve never seen anybody do that.

Charlie: Okay.

Tom: So I know it’s not required, because I’ve never seen it done and I’ve been in the business a long time. It’s always at the bottom to let the water that saturates through the brick to kind of dry out and drain.

Charlie: So it’s just at the bottom?

Tom: Just at the bottom.

Charlie: Okay. All right.

Tom: Yeah, there’s not that much water that gets in there but some does.
