Tom had an article in the Houston Chronicle about antique furniture and I cut the article out but have misplaced it. Tom had given a formula to use which consited of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits but I can’t remember which ingredient was 2 parts and which was 1. Can someone please refresh me on this so I can use it?

Listen to Tom’s answer:
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: 2 parts mineral spirits. One part boiled, linseed oil. You do not boil it yourself by the way, don’t put it on the stove. You buy it that way. Now [generally moving 00:00:07] to this that linseed oil is what you break a mitt in with for baseball. When you get it, you break into the … Cause you’re a baseball guy, so that part you can get and that was always popular as a kid, breaking in your mitts.
Charlie: And remember it’s flammable.
Tom: Yes. Now if you put those 2 together and you soak it in a rag in it, it will instantaneously combust. So it [‘will just slowly smolder’ 00:00:27].
Charlie: Kinda like us.
Tom: So be careful with … Guess what time and day it is.
Charlie: When you put Tom and me in a bag, we will [‘slow’ 00:00:033] spontaneously combust.
Tom: Well there’s a trick about not letting it happen. You soak it in water and put it in a zip lock bag. You want to try that?
Charlie: No. I was like put make that [inaudible 00:00:42] keep us from going in a bag.
Tom: No [cross talking 00:00:44].
Charlie: I got new for you buddy. We’re all going to wind up in a bag someday. All right Margaret [cross talking 00:00:48].
Tom: Wait. I’m not done.
Charlie: Okay.
Tom: Use 40 [‘steel wool 00:00:52’]. The whole point was don’t use the rag. Okay. And then you could go ahead and wipe your furniture down your antiques with that and if you do spill some or something back to the rag, if you have to wipe it up, wipe it up, soak it in the water, put in a zip lock bag and you can dispose it that way without any problems.
