Tom: He’s got 2 units. I think 2 more new units, if he’s looking for new units, is fine. As far as the brand goes, I don’t care. Pick the company; they’re going to maintain it. They’re going to take care of it. Whatever they happen to be a dealer with … For instance, Absolute Comfort Air, an American Standard dealer, one of our sponsors, that’s what I would tell you to choose for them. Whoever you use, choose their brand.
Charlie: What about the whole R22 thing, and all that?
Tom: Right now, you’re going to … Probably, most people go to R410. Because you’re getting 2 brand new units, I think you might as well stay with the later technology, which is the 410. There is still some controversy about the 22s and stuff.
If you were telling me you’re just going to replace a part or piece, go ahead and just buy the R22s. You’ll save money, and then in the long run, you’ll end up getting a better deal, and then eventually getting a brand new unit, which will be an R410, or even something new.
Stay away from the heat pumps. Hopefully, in that older house in that neighborhood, you have natural gas and then the furnace, of course, will be replaced with a fan motor, and that will be a natural gas furnace.
