Charlie:
Tom, Mike from Montrose writes to us, he says, “We have a leak coming through the ceiling of our downstairs powder room. It happens every time the maid comes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s right above the bathroom though not directly.” Okay, so apparently the laundry’s on the second floor here.

Tom:
Right.
Charlie:
“We’ve had a plumber out three times. He’s tested all the bathrooms upstairs and the washing machine. Can’t find the leak. What say you?”
Tom:
The only thing I can imagine is that pumping the … Today’s washing machines pump the water so hard and so fast, that it will overflow right there behind the washing machine and drip down into, maybe the bathroom below and it’s following the pipe. That’s the only think I could imagine. To solve that what you need to do is have an extension or shove the hose back farther down into that drain that’s in the wall that comes off the washing machine cause there might be back overflowing on the backside. So
what I would do is this. Run the washing machine. When it starts to exhaust look over the back of it and see if its overflowing on that pipe. If it is then that’s the problem.
Charlie:
If you don’t think the plumber’s … I can’t believe the plumber wouldn’t have run the washing machine to figure it out.
Tom:
You know, I don’t know, but if what I’m thinking is if the plumber checked all the pipes for leaks, but didn’t run the washing machine.
Charlie:
Ding, ding, ding.
Tom:
Yeah.
Charlie:
Winner, winner.
Tom:
That’s what I think it is.
