Can I use Ice and Water Shield instead of tar paper as a sound barrier?

Charlie:
Chris from Memorial wants to know can you use Ice and Water Shield instead of tar paper on a stucco replacement as a sound barrier? There’s an Oreo of a question for you. One on top of the other.

I was almost going to say yes before you finished the question, but sound barrier, it’s not going to do anything.

Charlie:
No.

Tom:
No.

Charlie:
You can use an Ice and Water Shield instead of-

Tom:
You can use it anywhere you want instead of tar paper. It’s a great product.

Charlie:
What is it? I mean, what’s the difference?

Tom:
It’s more expensive. It’s a rubberized material that sticks to, in most cases, it would be roof decking, and then you put your roof on it. If a nail or something goes through it, it actually will close up the hole if say a nail rots. It was primarily used up north along the bottom edge of the roof where you get the ice dams underneath.

Charlie:
You’re talking like Spring,  Conroe….

Tom:
I’m talking about like more New Hampshire or Vermont, but it kept the ice from crawling up under there and destroying the roof deck. It’s used down here in a different way very well.
