Charlie:
Remodeling question here from Ricky in spring. He says he’s in the beginning stages of remodeling a master bath and he is converting the tub area into a large walk-in shower. He wants to know if he should block off the drain to the other single shower that’s in there. Is that satisfactory, just block it off and move on.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
Yeah, there’s no other thing you can do, just cap it, block it off, make sure it’s not- Don’t leave it open is the answer to that one.
Charlie:
You think?
Tom:
Yeah. Hopefully when the plumber moves the drain line where you want it, and he’ll take care of that.
Charlie:
Put a cap on top of it or something?
Tom:
Yeah, they can cap it. Just glue a cap. Usually it’s just PVC.
Charlie:
Stuff an old tee shirt in there and you’re good to go.
Tom:
Yeah … Okay. Don’t go there, man. I just went through one of those [crosstalk 00:00:40] …
Charlie:
I’m sure I work.
Tom:
Okay. That was a fun email.
Charlie:
That’s where I was going with that.
Tom:
Okay. Anyway, a professional plumber will probably cap it so it will be just fine, below the surface and they’ll float over, and I’m sure the tile and the floor of the shower will go right over it and you’ll never remember it’s there. Don’t leave it open.
