My wife and I are looking for a home. The house was built in 1955 and has cast iron pipes under the slab foundation. The inspection shows that as expected the pipe is nearing the end of its life and could create a problem down the road….or tomorrow.
Can the TDT epoxy coating be a possible solution? Most of the information I see talks about pipes in the walls, can it be used on pipe that runs under the slab? The fear, I guess, with a traditional re-piping is what might happen with the foundation.
I hope you can provide some insight quickly so we can make our decision as otherwise we love the house.

Tom: I’ll tell you what if it’s a 1955 home it also has galvanized pipes for supply lines too so TDT can very much so help you with that and renew your supply lines. We come to the drain lines we got cast iron lines under there, they tend to wear out and get thin with all the years of exposure to the dirt and whatever you’re putting down the drains. The areas that get really bad are the P-traps underneath the showers and the tubs that are in the ground. Also the sweep is what we call it, underneath the toilet and they’re the bends, and you can’t really fix those with a inline system. You can fix straight lines but not curves and different configurations like that.
I suspect there’s going to be some tunneling involved and when they get under there it’s probably going to be cheaper than trying to do a combination of both to go ahead and just do a PVC drain system underneath the house. A 1955 home probably isn’t a very big home, they were smaller then so hopefully it won’t be too bad on the cost. But if you’re just buying this home and you put it into the purchase price and take it off the top and put it in when you get it, that’s fine.
