What is the best insulation for your home? How do you rate the “NASA” invented spray foam insulation?
Carol
Tom: Well apparently, NASA invented everything.
Charlie: Everything.
Tom: Well, you could call … Velcro, radiant barriers, …
Charlie: Tang.
Tom: They used gold … Tang, that got pulled off the market, if you remember. The original Tang was killing people.
Charlie: Is that gone?
Tom: Yes.
Charlie: It’ll do that.
Tom: Velcro is what burned up the first Apollo. But we can go back to all that history. Also, battery powered tools came from the moon missions, too.
Charlie: I think ballpoint pens.
Tom: But the fact that someone would market, and I don’t know how they get away with this, because it’s used so much that NASA invented something, so it’s got to be good, is really bad. NASA wasn’t in the business to invent products for us. It just happened, and they should not be held responsible for failures on some of them.
They probably have a very specific need to do one thing with a product that you can’t just say it’s good for NASA, it’s good for your house.
Charlie: Right.
Tom: So the answer is no foams at all, and the best insulation is a formaldehyde-free fiberglass, and it’s been used in all the new lead and green buildings that we’re doing now, because it has a long life, it doesn’t have any poisons in there to hurt people. So I suggest that’s what she use.
