My water heater works fine. I’m the original owner of my Perry home. I’ve been here 14 1/2 years. What should I do about the new water heater rules? Buy and install? Buy and store it and wait until mine goes out? Any other options for a cash strapped homeowner?
Thank you,
Mike
Tom: Everybody wants to go out and buy something right now and store it, but the whole idea behind the new water heater is before we … There’s no reason to badmouth them. They’re going to be much more efficient, and we have so many more options today, with the hybrids and the on-demands, and the booster pumps and the smaller tanks. Just thinking I always have to have a 40 gallon or 50 gallon tank, I think people need to get out of the box and start thinking a different direction.
Secondly, I’m not going to replace it unless it’s broken. Fourteen years without a water softener? It’s not going to have a lot of years left. Should you go buy one? That’s totally your call. If you’re going to replace it yourself, don’t call Abacus and say, “Hey, sell me a water heater.” I mean, go to Home Depot or something.
Charlie: No, but why would do that, though? It makes no sense.
Tom: I don’t know.
Charlie: I’m thinking how much room one of those takes up, and you’re just going to have it just in case?
Tom: Well, and that’s right.
Charlie: Do you have an extra car in case it breaks down? Well, I do.
Tom: Well, I’ve got an old ’96 Bronco, but yeah.
Charlie: Yeah, I got an old Expedition in the backyard. But besides that point …
Tom: No, good point. Anyway, I just think we should start thinking about getting more efficient with our water, and start thinking out of the box, and quit saying, “Oh, I only want the cheap one. I don’t want the new advanced newer ones that you need.”
Charlie: Couldn’t agree with you more.
