Charlie:
Doug, down in Friendswood, says he has a dust problem with his AC. Fine layer of dust everywhere. He can’t find it. He’s been in the attic. He’s looking for leaks in the ducts. He thinks it might be insulation. How can he track down the source of this?
Tom:
I don’t know. I really do.
Charlie:
Wow. Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve experienced two Tom Tynan stumps in one broadcast.
Tom:
Well, no, the other one was easy. I had someone to send him to. My house has dust…
Charlie:
Right. And he fixed his AC-
Tom:
I have insulation. I have air conditioner. I have carpet. I have texture on the wall. Everybody has that. Everybody has some dust.
Charlie:
He might even have that popcorn stuff on the ceiling, too, being in Friendswood.
Tom:
That’s what I mean. There’s so much, but is there a person that can take and scoop that dust, and just say, “Oh, this is it. This is where it’s coming from.”? It doesn’t exist.
Charlie:
It doesn’t-
Tom:
I’m sorry. It doesn’t.
Charlie:
Send it, like the CSI guys out there kind of.
Tom:
Yeah. I mean, I wish it would. It would be easier for everybody. It’d be a dust free world.
Charlie:
Nix nix.
Tom:
I think what I would do is put in a fresh air return in the air conditioning system. Positively pressure the home. Maybe it’s caused by a lot of uncontrolled infiltration. That’s usually it. Another thing you would do if you have carpets, have them professionally cleaned really well. That sometimes can be the problem. You can avoid that too. Make sure around your registers, those are those grills on the ceiling that your air conditioner actually pumps the air into your home. Take the registers off. If there’s any gaps, caulk all around those gaps and put your registers back on. Out of those three steps, I think you probably would solve a major dust problem.
