I have a house that was built in 1972 and when you turn on the water rust comes out and was wondering if the pipes can be cleaned out or if we are looking at having to replace the galvanized pipes? Can you recommend a company to replace the old pipes? The house is located in the Champions area in Houston.

Listen to Tom’s answer:
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Yeah, if you don’t want to tear up your house, if you’re doing a major remodel, you’ll re-plumb house, but you don’t need to. That’s [‘the old’ 00:00:04] galvanized pipes that was made back in the 60s in America. I was American made. So it doesn’t spring holes but it does get rusty after a while because of the water, especially with the new water coming through the pipes today with all the aggressive metals and things in there. So I would call Texas Drain Technology. They have a [inaudible 00:00:20] flow pipe restoration system where they can come in in a couple of days. It’s a little me inconvenient but I suggest you and your wife go and take a little weekend somewhere here in town, like a stay vacation. It’s what they call the staycation?
Charlie: Right.
Tom: So go ahead and do that, let them come in, they’ll sandblast the pipes, they’ll line it with and epoxy and the pipes will literally be better then they were when they were putting a new because now the water doesn’t touch the metal and you’ll get no more corrosion, no more rust, all of that will be eliminated and your house will stay in tact. So that’s a good way to do it. Texas Drain Technology.
