Charlie: James in Fulshur says, “Tom, I listen to your show all the time in spite of that Charlie Moger guy. I know you’re very particular on paint”, he says. “I have a stucco house which we need to paint. I want your recommendation on brand, type of paint and all that.” I believe the paint for stucco has different qualities.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Well, the kind to use for stucco is elastomeric paint. It’s kind of rubbery I guess you might say. It seals it but it also moves and that’s what you want to do. A couple of coats of elastomeric paint is what you’re using. As far as the brands go, I always say don’t buy paint on aisle nine. Go to a paint store, a Sherwin-Williams, a Pittsburgh, a Benjamin Moore. There’s a bunch of them. They will all have good quality elastomeric paint. Always go to a paint store, talk to the professionals and get what you need if you’re going to paint it yourself. Or, if you’re going to have someone else do it and you talk to someone like Rudy, he’s a professional painter and he will be recommending certain paints that he feels real comfortable with because he won’t use the cheap ones. You can talk to a professional painter and find out what they like to use too but elastomeric paints are the mainstay with stucco.
Charlie: Yeah, you could just have Rudy do it for you.
Tom: Well, that’s what I mean.
Charlie: Yeah.
Tom: Whatever Rudy says, he’s got to warranty it. He’s going to want to pick his paint.
