Good morning guys, I recently had my bathroom shower redone. I replaced the green board with new cement type backing and retiled. They used a sanded grout. I now notice the grout gets darker when taking a shower. It dries back in couple hours. Is this normal and is moisture going all the way to the backer board? I did not use a sealer as of yet and do I need to?
Thanks,
Pat
Tom: Sand and grout’s going to take some water. That’s why we use the backer board so it doesn’t go any further. It’s going to try out so if it bothers her she could probably put a sealer on there. It would help the water shed faster, kind of like a wax. Unfortunately on the floor it’s not going to last very long at all. Anywhere you use any detergents or any of the soaps that you use on your body gets on to that sealed area. The sealer’s going to wash off very quickly. As far as that goes, on the walls she could do that if she doesn’t like it getting a little darker but it’s not a problem. It’s going to dry out every time.
