Hi Tom and Charlie,
I have one room in my house that doesn’t cool as well, facing West. The other rooms on that side of the house cool just fine though. The house was built in “70 and the duct work looks rigid, like its never been replaced. I’ve inspected it the line to this room for leaks and found nothing. I also removed the dampers completely from that line. What could I do to make that room cool better?
Brian
Tom: Well, one of the things you shouldn’t do is everything you did because it’s not going to help. We’ll put your registers back on because you don’t want that open.
Charlie: He took the dampers out not the registers.
Tom: Well, OK, put the damper, put everything back. It doesn’t have enough, either, volume which means another duct. Don’t just keep trying to open one. Get another one in there, or a return air. You can get an auxiliary return air in that room. Have somebody balance the system. Don’t try to just start taking parts and pieces off. That’s not a good way to go. Because you could do more harm than good is what I’m getting at.
But, as far as that goes, it is the left side. Every room has a different load on it. The rigid duct work you have is permanent. Don’t pull it out because that is the best duct you can have. People can’t afford to have that anymore in many cases. So, keep that and have someone come out like Absolute Comfort Air and balance it.
Charlie: We did.
Tom: And, Brian, that’s what we did in my house. We had them come out because our bedroom was kind of warm. They fixed that. They put that thing in, bam, it’s the same as every other room in the house now.
Charlie: Yeah, it’s just a matter of redirection and maybe changing some of the, placements of things.
