Charlie: Jona in Cypress has written us, Tom. She wants to know, how often someone should perform roof maintenance, on your roof? Should she have them add a collar to all their vent pipes, ’cause she says, “We’re receiving conflicting advice on both.” She’s looking forward to your response, here.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: There shouldn’t be any maintenance, at all, short of cleaning off the leaves, if they really build up heavy. If the roof is done right … I mean, I’m 25 years in my roof now, I’ve never done any maintenance to it. If you think you have a problem, if you see shingles on the ground, if you do have a leak somewhere, that, of course, would trigger a maintenance call to Ideal Roofing-
Charlie: Yeah.
Tom: There’s no doubt about it. As far as regular maintenance, no. Now, what I suspect is, people are saying it’s time for maintenance, so, they want to get on her roof.
Charlie: Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Winner!
Tom: And sell her a new roof. I would be careful about that one, for sure, especially when they’re coming at your door.
Charlie: I read this email. I said, “Jona, somebody’s trying to sell you something.”
Tom: Yeah. I agree, very much.
Charlie: All right. If you get your roof done right, you shouldn’t worry about it, till it’s time to replace it. Chances are, you won’t own the house when that happens.
Tom: Goodness, the roofs today, even the shingle roofs, are lasting 30, 40 years easily.
Charlie: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
