Charlie: Melissa, she’s in La Presa, California.
Tom: Wow.
Charlie: Which is south, way down near San Diego, so she’s kind of away from all the bad stuff going on.
Tom: The fires.
Charlie: Yeah. She’s says, “I have the same problem I’ve heard you talk about with one room being hot and the rest of the house being freezing, I just can’t cool it down. My house was built in 2006. So what do I have to ask for? Should I just get a return vent, or what?”
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: You don’t ask them. They need to come in and do a static pressure test and look at your duct work. There’s a duct work issue. It could be something very simple as just adjusting the dampers. Or you might want to have a return air put somewhere to start to balance it out.
But you need someone who’s really good with duct design. Unfortunately, most training programs never get into duct design across the entire country.
Charlie: No kidding.
Tom: And it’s always kind of, you make it up as you go and that’s not a good thing. Once in a while you get somebody really good. So, find someone who’s good, find someone who understands duct design. Hopefully, it will be something simple.
