I recently was told by insurance I need 3 shingles replaced to pass inspection. The quotes I received were $1400, $3500, and $800. Will 3 shingles cost me this much money to repair/replace?
Brian
Tom: No. In fact you can’t buy three shingles you have to buy a bundle, which will cost a little more. You’re not going to use them all, you might. Here’s the problem: Replacing just three shingles on an old roof is iffy. Usually they have to take out an area and then blend the new ones back in. It’s usually a larger area than just the three. I wish it was that easy you could just take three out, but you got to take them apart and they stick, they break, so there’s going to be an area where they’re going to try to find a way to make the transition. $3,500 I think seems high when you look at the other bids, but I think it’s going to be somewhere between $500 and $1,500 depending on what they’re doing.
Charlie: So he’s got two that are within reason and one that’s like, “Get out of here”.
Tom: Yeah, and remember they’re never going to match so it’s going to be patchwork-looking.
Charlie: Okay.
Tom: If it’s at the front, the homeowners’ associations and all that … I’m not sure where this house is.
