Hi Tom I have a broken lock on my sliding-glass patio door. They are very old I can’t find a replacement lock.
What do you recommend?
Thank You,
Daniel
Tom: There used to be a guy in town here that had a company that had all the replacement parts and all he did was repair those kind of doors, and all the apartments from back in the 70s and the 80s. I don’t know where you’re going to get those parts anymore. If you don’t see them at the … You can try the Ace Hardwares. You can try the Home Depots. You can try the Lowe’s. I don’t know if you’re going to find them, quite frankly. I think it’s time for you to think about replacing with a new door or putting what we call a charlie bar in there. I’m sure you’ve heard that term.
Charlie: No, I’ve never heard that.
Tom: Have you ever seen the bars that go on the sliding doors? Those are called charlie bars.
Charlie: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I didn’t know what they were called.
Tom: Or you can find a stick and put it on the floor there next to it. We used to do that, too.
Charlie: That works, too.
Tom: Those are called charlie bars.
Charlie: Okay, and just stop going out that door.
Tom: Yeah, when the charlie bars …
Charlie: I’m just saying. You’re saying give up on using it.
Tom: No, don’t use it. They actually have them where you click them in at night before you go to bed …
Charlie: And then take it out, okay.
Tom: It’s the thing you got to do.
Charlie: Or you could go to the Door Clearance Center and get really nice new ones.
Tom: I think you should get a new door but unfortunately some people don’t have the money.
Charlie: There it is.
Tom: Door Clearance Center can definitely make a unit for you.
Charlie: I’m betting. I’m going to go out on a limb on this one.
Tom: What are you betting?
Charlie: I’m lucky in love, not in betting.
Tom: And rich in love as well.
Charlie: I’m betting that that charlie bar is cheaper than a new door.
Tom: That’s what I was getting at but okay.
Charlie: There you go!
Tom: So is string when you have drip in some faucet instead of fixing the faucet.
