How do I remove rust stains?

The a/c secondary line dripped rusty water onto our roof while the primary line was blocked. Is there anything that will remove the rust stain from the metal window sill and asphalt roof shingles or do we need to replace window and shingles? the window overlooks our backyard from the game room and is visually unpleasant. We have tried vinegar solution and a rust remover product containing phosphoric acid without success.

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom: There’s a lot of rust removers on the market today that you can get. A CLR would be one. That comes to the top of my head you can get in a grocery store. You can go to Home Depot’s or Lou’s, look down the aisle of all the cleaning products. You’ll see a lot of rust removers on there. That’s all you need to do is clean it up. A square brush and a rust remover should take care of it.
Charlie: Just be careful up on your roof there.
Tom: Yes.
