Charlie: Terry from Sugar Land sent us one in. He says, “We’re preparing to update, Tom, the kitchen and master bath in our 25 year old Sugar Land home.” He wants your advice where to begin. Cabinets, countertops and backsplash, sink fixtures. They’re all needing to be updated. Where do you start on a project like this? I remember this, because I went through this.
Tom: Sledge hammer. Everything comes out, but the first thing you have to do, Charlie, is you have to pick your new appliances.
Charlie: Yeah. Okay. Exactly.
Tom: Because anything you do past that, it has … A kitchen is built around appliances, and that’s just the bottom line. You have to build cabinets around the appliances, countertops have to fit around appliances, and if you’re going to start remodeling an entire kitchen, that’s where you would start. Even if you’re building a new home, which includes a kitchen of course, we always sent people out to get the appliances, because when the time comes we have to start building cabinets and things, we need to know what’s going where, and how big a space we have to leave.
Charlie: He’s in luck, because Steven from Norwest will be here a little later this morning. He’s going to be talking about grills though, which-
Tom: Well, it’s that time of year.
Charlie: Well, no, but here’s the thing I remember. This is a great time of year to get your kitchen done, because you get a grill, because you’re not going to have a kitchen for about four or five weeks-
Tom: That’s for sure.
Charlie: -so you’ll be cooking out on the grill.
Tom: If you’re going to contract it yourself, make sure you know what you’re doing, but if not, work with someone like TriFection, the experts that have all the people, because a kitchen has I don’t know how many different skilled sets that have to go in there. To get one guy that’s going to be the plumber, the electrician, the tile man, and this, it will take forever, and probably not be a very good job.
Charlie: Of all the things TriFection did when they did our kitchen that amazed me and Sandy, she’s a little more anal about these things than I am but, was how well they scheduled the different contractors coming and going through the house. It was a pretty amazing experience. One would leave, the other one would show up.
Tom: Absolutely.
Charlie: If you’ve ever run anything, you know having different people showing up at the right time is an art form.
