I heard you talking about kWh cost before. I am under the “Reliant Secure 12” plan now. To renew by 11/17/14 they want me to go to their “Reliant Secure 14” plan which they say has an average price of 13.5 per kWH. Did you say I should be able to get under 8 kWH ?
Max
Tom: Not necessarily under 8, but I’m paying 8.4 right now. I forgot what you signed up for, Charlie. I think it was around that 8.2 or something.
Charlie: Yeah, 8-something, right.
Tom: Yeah, but right now the going rate’s actually a little lower. You could probably get it close to 8, and you might be able depending on the area you’re in and the amount of electricity you use get it under 8, but it certainly should be about 40% less. There’s no way you would pay 13.
Charlie: So how does he make sure he gets that lower … I mean when you’re shopping for these …
Tom: Home show. Listen to me …
Charlie: Power to Choose.
Tom: Powertochoose.org. You have three questions they’re going to ask you, what kind of rate you want. You want a fixed rate. First off, you’ll put in your zip code. Then they’ll say, “You want a fixed rate?” Yes. How many kilowatt hours used on average, 500, 1000, or 2000. Just look at your bill and put in whatever is appropriate.
Then the amount of time. Go 4 to 12 months. Your good plans will come up. Then you can decide which one you want to go for, but remember, you’re going to have to switch when your plans run out. They’re going to bump you to a higher rate, which means you’ve got to make sure your switching is going to happen somewhere in the fall or the spring, not the summer.
Stay away from anywhere from May to September if you can on switching and get through the summer with a low rate.
