My home is a wood frame house built in 1946. The windows are original. I have window-unit air conditioning. I need to replace the windows where the air conditioning units are located. What company offers windows that will support my 18,000 BTU window-units?
Thank you,
Donna
Tom: 18,000 BTUs is a pretty big unit. It’s a little bit over a ton of cooling but as far as the windows, whoever you buy your windows from, have to look at this. Now I know Jim Fiume has replacement windows now that he ran out of composite material which is a much stronger frame. That might be one of the options there and one of these window units have those metal boxes that sit out the window to keep the water from getting on the actual mechanics part of the air conditioner. Those can actually be braced up to on the backside so the window doesn’t take all of the weight.
Charlie: I was thinking that 18,000 BTUs, he would have some kind of support thing underneath it.
Tom: Well you would be surprised, it might not be as big as you think. They can get compact. A little over turn is not a big deal so as far that goes, just deal with the … If you call Gulf Coast Windows, whoever you call, just tell them what you want to do and make sure that they know how to install that window with enough screws to hold the little bit of twerk it’s going to have and then set it up for her.
