CHARLIE: Steve in the heights. He says, “What can I do to get latex paint to stick to walls and ceilings, doors and trim, that were painted with enamel?”
Podcast: Play in new window
TOM: Well, you can use a brush.
CHARLIE: You’re a funny guy. He says he’s tried Kilz. He’s tried roughing it up, and it just peels right off.
TOM: Yeah. If you’re going to do it on woodwork on the inside of the home, that’s doors and trim, use an oil-based paint. If you’re going … It has nothing to do with that it was an oil-based paint to begin with, it’s just, latex is a rubber paint. Latex is great, water-based paints, for sheet rock and things of that nature, but not on the woodwork.
CHARLIE: I’m looking at the latex paint around us. Does that mean we’re in a rubber room, here?
TOM: Yeah.
CHARLIE: Okay.
TOM: That was done purposeful.
CHARLIE: Yeah, buddy.
