Charlie: Terrence, in Sienna Plantation, says, “I wanted to know if you’ve heard of an insulation called Knauf. It’s the brand the contractors are using in my home. I want to know is this good or sufficient grade for Houston?”
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Well, if you go online and you look at the company, they make all kinds of insulation products. It’s a brand name. They’ve been around a long time. Everything from basement insulation to some of the other they do. You’ll have to go look at it, but they’re known for their wool products. They’re not a fiberglass company, although they do have some.
Charlie: Wool?
Tom: Wool. Well, in Texas we used to use rock wool.
Charlie: Oh, okay.
Tom: Okay, so it is an organic product. The problem I have with the wool products, and they’ve gotten better, is the old ones used to deteriorate into dust. But these new ones, and this company is fine. If they’re using it, I don’t have a problem with the products they’re using, as long as they’re for the Gulf Coast area, they don’t have a vapor barrier on there, and things like that. So you’ve got to watch out for the product that they choose. Hopefully, they’re selling the right one for this right region.
