Charlie: Terry in the Energy Corridor, one of our neighbors around here, says, “My neighbor and I replaced my garbage disposal and did a mighty fine job, if I don’t say so myself.”
Tom: Yay.
Charlie: “But now I’m stuck with the old one, and I don’t know what to do with it. There are plenty of places that’ll take old electronics and computers and stuff, but I can’t find anybody who will take old disposals.” What do you do with this thing when you’re done with it, Tom?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Put it out in the front of the road when the trash guys come.
Charlie: Heavy trash day.
Tom: Yeah. Or, I guess, I’m not in the City of Houston, but here every Wednesday and Saturday, if I just put it on the side of the road, those guys will take it. And they might recycle it. If you want to take it down to [crosstalk 00:00:32]
Charlie: One of the scrap metal places will take it.
Tom: Yeah, they’ll give you like four dollars.
Charlie: In two dollar bills.
Tom: Whatever. Yes.
Charlie: Okay.
Tom: That’s what I mean, and it’s fine. I mean, if you’re really into recycling, you want to do that. But, yeah, you just put it out in the trash. I don’t know why this is becoming such a dilemma.
Charlie: Well, because people don’t want to put stuff in the landfill. I get that.
Tom: I think even if you give it to trash people, if they see it and they’re doing their job right, they will probably recycle it, because there’s some copper and stuff in there. But sometimes that’s not worth it, either. That’s a weird thing.
Charlie: Heres my advice to Terry. If you feel this strongly about it, take it down to one of the scrap metal places, drop it off. They’ll take it. They may not give you a plug nickel for it, but you know what? You’ll do the right thing for the metal. How’s that?
