Charlie: “Patty in Texas City has one for us, Tom. She says she needs to seal a wooden deck … that’s obviously … Texas City, she’s obviously on the water. It was last sealed about 15 years ago with Thompson’s Water Seal, and she’s having it pressure washed, but she doesn’t want it stained. She likes the wood showing through. She’s read Thompson’s isn’t the best. What do you recommend?

Tom: “I’ll tell you, Thompson’s didn’t sit on that deck for 15 years.
Charlie: “Highly unlikely.
Tom: “Probably a year, year and a half.
Charlie: “Only if it was in the can.
Tom: “It’s true. But there’s a lot of clear water sealers, but they’re only going to do so much for so long. The most you’re going to get out of them might be … and you’d have to find a really good one, and I know they’ve been some out there, but they kind of come and go sometimes because it’s not a big market for it … but maybe three years. But even Thompson’s is all competitive, so you’re looking at a very short time. So if you want to go Thompson’s, you can.
There’s Clear Wood Finish by Flood; that’s another one. Wolman … just like Wolmanized lumber, Wolman makes a whole bunch of different ones. So, there’s different ones out there, but they’re all going to be about the same.
