Is it okay to put wood flooring throughout the whole house? And what type of wood do you recommend?

Charlie: Bruce in Spring Branch has a question. He says, “I need to replace all the flooring in my home. It’s small. It’s about 1,500 square feet.”, and he wants to know, “Is it okay to put wood flooring throughout the whole house?”, like in the kitchen, the bathrooms and all that? And what type of wood do you recommend?” He plans on staying there for a while.

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom: I would not put wood in a bathroom. Kitchens, people actually do it in kitchens. If you ever have a major problem, your insurance will have to pay for redoing the floor, if something floods, but bathrooms, no. Everywhere else would be certainly fine.
Charlie: Okay.  If he wanted to keep the look of wood, he might consider like a vinyl wood in there or something.
Tom: He could do a vinyl wood. He could do some of the water resistant wood look laminates. You have that you could do throughout the house, which would actually hold up better than the wood part, and it would hold up better in the kitchen too, and you still get that warmth of wood, but as far as bathrooms and wood, no.
