Using green board in ceilings

Can green board (water resistant drywall) be used in a ceiling?

Tom: No. Very, very curtly, no. A lot of people do it, and they do it, and it’s a mistake, because it’s made up with a different material that cannot hold its weight, and there’s a chance it could fall down on you. If you read the specifications, it’s meant for walls only, and it’s not meant for areas that are directly wet, like a shower, but in areas that have a moisture content, like behind a set of vanity or something like that, or a washing machine and dryer, back there where you can get some moisture in it. But that’s not ever meant for a ceiling.
