We live on acreage and have a septic system. At first the chlorine tablets were stored in our
garage, but corrosion appeared on the fridge, so the tabs were moved to a plastic tub outside.
Is this the best place for their storage? The package says they need a “cool dry space”, but does that even exist around here?

Tom’s Answer:
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Yes. It is the best place. Even if it’s a swimming pool or a septic, if it’s salt, if it’s any kind of harsh chemicals, and especially chlorine tabs, they need to be in a water- tight container outside. You wouldn’t have to lay it in the bright sun, but if he can put it in a shaded area, you’ll be fine.
Charlie: That’s where I kept mine for years.
Tom: Yeah.
Charlie: Until I was cured of my pool.
Tom: For those people don’t know that if you keep …
Charlie: (Laughing.) The best way to go.
Tom: If you do keep chlorine in a garage, everything will get heavy, heavy rust. I don’t care what kind of buckets you put it in, what kind of containers you put it in. Your cars, your tools, anything metal will rust like crazy and quickly.
