Sheet rock tape is falling off in my garage.

My home was built in the 1970s. The roof of the garage has panels of sheetrock that have a white tape over the joints between the pieces. The tape has started falling off. I would like to replace the tape if needed. Can you tell me what type of tape I should use and where I can purchase it?

Tom: Just pull off the old tape. Try to save areas that it’s not pulling off. You take a razor blade and cut it. Just pull the loose stuff off. Then you’re going to retape and float it with joint compound and sheet rock tape and just retape the whole thing. Once you retape and float it, you’ve got to paint it, or that tape will just come down in a few weeks just from the humidity. I would use an exterior house paint inside the garage because it’s not air conditioned, and that’s what’s going to happen. Also, what he needs to do, and this happens a lot with sheet rock ceilings in garages, they’ll fall because the nails get corroded, and the weight of the sheet rock will end up on top of your car. Go around and push on that to make sure it’s secured well. If he has to, please renail it.
