Charlie: Brian in Friendswood’s our first contestant. He says, “What product do you recommend for sealing granite? And how often should it be sealed in your humble opinion?”
Tom: Toothpaste. What is toothpaste?
Charlie: Seriously?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: No, not seriously. There are a lot of granite sealers. If you need to seal it, that’s fine. You can find them all kinds of places. You can get them at hardware stores like Berings, even Home Depot, Lowe’s, wherever you can find them-
Charlie: Ace?
Tom: Ace. So, just get a granite sealer. One of my favorite is a polish. It’s not a sealer but it’s a stone polish. And it’s actually called Stone Polish, and I know you can get it at Berings because I got it there myself.
Charlie: Yeah, I think it’s made by International Stoneworks, isn’t it?
Tom: It’s actually made by an Italian company but they are a distributor of it I do believe.
Charlie: Okay.
Tom: International Stoneworks.
Charlie: Google it and you’ll find out.
Tom: But it’s my favorite because you spray it like Pledge like you would do wood and just wipe it off and it’s like glass, man. It’s cool. And it’s easy.
Charlie: Better than sealing it?
Tom: Well, the sealer, they want you to take a brush and they want you to clean it first and put it down. Takes forever. The stone polish, wing wang bang, thank you ma’am. It’s done.
Charlie: So, you’re saying to seal it is more like a relationship and what you’re talking about is more like a date?
Tom: Yeah, and the sealer once you put it on, it’s supposed to last a long time. The stone polish, you can do every other day. And once you wash it with any kind of Windex or cleaner or anything, the sealer comes off. So, I just like the polish better.
Charlie: So, polish, don’t seal.
Tom: I prefer not to and I’ve had granite for over 20 years and I’ve just used the polish.
