Charlie: Luis, who is in Rosehill, he says, “We are on a septic system in the Tomboll area.” He says, “We have no rotten egg, … water.” This makes no sense. He says, “We have no rotten egg odor or rust in our water, and we’ve had it tested for pesticides and feces, and we’re looking into a whole house filtration system.” I’m thinking he meant that he definitely does….
Tom: I think he does.
Charlie: Yeah, okay. It’s the conjugating a verb that’s throwing us off here, kids. We are looking into a whole house filtration system that’ll filter out these, and also be able to bypass for the sprinkler system.
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: Oh, there’s no doubt, … call Aquatex, and they’ll do a whole house filter if that’s what it takes. When he says, … what threw me is, he says, “I have septic system.” But then the water he’s talking about is coming from his well.
Charlie: Yeah.
Tom: Because that’s water he’s using to bathe in, and do things with.
Charlie: So that’s not really a factor in the filtration he would use.
Tom: It has nothing to do with the septic system. But as far as that rotten egg smell, it’s common. It’s bacteria that are growing, getting in the water table. Ground water is getting really rancid. And we’re having to dig deeper and deeper and deeper to get clean water. So definitely, you can have it tested for pesticides and stuff, that’s important. But most importantly, get a filter in there and talk with John over at Aquatex and let him design the exact system. And it’ll be a combination of things, it could be a sediment filter, it might be a water conditioner, it might be an iron-out. He’s going to have to take a look at it.
Charlie: Is it possible his concern is that if you use a salt water softener or something, it’ll have some bad effect on his septic system? Is that maybe why he’s saying that?
Tom: No. Well it may be why he’s thinking it, because a lot of people think that. The reality is after all the testing, the salt is so minor, it doesn’t hurt your septic system whatsoever. So that’s kind of been put to rest, although a lot of people still argue it. It’s like when on-demand water heaters came out, he was, “oh they’re no good, they’re no good.” Now suddenly everybody’s putting them in. It takes a while to change people’s thought process.
