Charlie: Bill from Katy writes to us, Tom. He says that we purchased a home over in Falcon Point. Built in 2001. They moved in and everything is great, except for the master bedroom registers. Now, we’re talking about home improvements here. Okay.
Tom: This is going back to the big wad, but okay. Go ahead.
Charlie: Well, the thing is it’s kind of hot in there and that’s what he’s saying, is the rest of the house is cool. And so, we’ve tried turning off registers to get more air in there, but to no avail. What’s the problem, Tom?
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom: The problem is air flow, but shutting registers in other parts of the home doesn’t do anything. In fact, it does more harm than good. An air conditioning system is sized for your home. So, you have to have the proper air flow going through. You can’t force all that air down one duct. It doesn’t work. So, don’t do that. And, a lot of people try that or they shut rooms off, because they don’t go in there and they think they’re saving money. And all they’re doing is destroying their air conditioning system. You need to let it flow free, that’s for sure.
Charlie: Be free. Flow. In the flow.
Tom: That’s it. But, as far as that goes, you need to have someone check the duct work and have it redistributed to the points where it needs to be. And that sounds like to me, the bedroom.
Charlie: Sounds to me.
Tom: It sounds to me.
Charlie: Not sure where your point was, but okay.
Tom: No, it’s the bedroom. So, they’re going to need to redistribute the air and that means duct work issues.
Charlie: It means to call Absolute Comfort Air.
Tom: Of course.
Charlie: Home Show pro for air conditioning and they can check those ducts and realign your balance in the house. Is that what you’re talking about?
Tom: Yeah, you’re basically redistributing the air to where all the house is comfortable and not just half of it.
