Are there special installation replacement window requirements in Texas?

Charlie:
Antonio in Cypress has our last question this morning. He said a window salesperson told him there are either Texas or Harris County requirements that windows have argon gas, or any other gas, in double or triple pane replacement windows when installed by a local company. Is that right, Tom?

Podcast: Play in new window

Tom:
There are energy requirements that you have to meet, and one of the things that you’ll find on the bait and switch window ads that are really cheap, it says to meet Texas standards you have to upgrade. So, they’ll give you a price on a window in the counties you get away with it. If you have to go to the city of Houston, Charlie, and pull a permit, Charlie, and follow the rules and regulations on the new energy code, then yes, you do have requirements that have to be fulfilled, and a good company will do that and they’ll go down and get the permits lickety split.
