Repairing garage doors

Is it possible to balance a garage door with extended springs? I find videos all over on how to do it with the other kind of spring, but not the kind that are on the sides and extend as the door goes down.

And, my garage door stops correctly at the bottom, I adjusted it. But It will not change when I adjust the top stop. It goes until it hits the motor assembly. A tech on the phone said I need a new RPM sensor. It’s not easy for me to install such. Is there a solution besides a new opener?

Tom: That’s … When I hear this, I usually think people look at YouTube thinking they’re going to find a way to fix everything but bottom line is spring on a garage door is dangerous. It should be handled by professionals. I wouldn’t even deal with one. I’m going to call the overhead door company in Houston to take care of mine. I always do. Because of their experience, they can do it very quickly and it doesn’t cost a lot to have your springs adjusted. You got to be careful with the outside springs because those get really dangerous. If they break, they can fly and you can lose everything from half of your face to just your eye so be careful.
