Charlie:
Michael in League City asks, “I have a two story garage with 8 foot walls and I’d like to raise the top floor to allow for 10 foot walls on the first floor. Is that possible?”
Podcast: Play in new window
Tom:
Anything is possible.
Charlie:
If you’ve got enough time and money. Right.
Tom:
I watched this show the other night, The Most Expensive Homes in the World.
Charlie:
Oh yeah, I’ve seen that show.
Tom:
Okay, so … anything is possible.
Charlie:
I kept waiting for the Tynan home to come on.
Tom:
Yeah, they won’t be impressed. Especially with my yard right now. That being said, it’s always possible but is it practical or worth the money? No.
Charlie:
Okay. Is that something like talk to TriFection and see if it’s something they can do?
Tom:
You can talk to TriFection. Here’s what you would probably think about. If you want to raise it just to a straight 10 flat ceiling, that gets really tough. If you would like to restructure the attic above and give yourself more of a cathedral type ceiling where you can open it up but it won’t be flat, it’ll have a peak to it, and have some different shapes to it, like a coffered ceiling. In some cases, you can do that with the existing structure, but to raise it just straight up another two feet is really difficult and …
Charlie:
I think when you start moving floors around, it gets a little complicated.
Tom:
You’d have to rip everything above out and start. It’s like tearing half a house down. I’m not going to say it can’t be done.
