Old Tile, New Glue

You helped me so much in the past so I hope you can help me today.

10 years ago we placed 12 inch ceramic tile in my mom’s house so that it would be more livable and I could stay with her. Unfortunately, she has passed away and we need to sell the house, but the tile has come up in several places and no matching tile can be found. Underneath the tile is still the original black glue from the original linoleum from the 60’s and for some reason only a few tiles have come up in different places. It would cost too much to replace all the tile when only 12 tiles out of 100 have come up.  Can I just use the old tiles with new glue?  If not, is there anything else I can do?  What would have been the cause of this anyway?

Liz
