Mildew Smell When it Rains

We recently purchased an old bungalow home in the Museum District.

When we had our first heavy rain a few weeks ago, we noticed a mildew type smell in our living room. The smell comes every time we have a heavy rain and stays for a couple of days. The smell seems to be coming from one of the walls between the living room and the porch. The exterior of the wall is brick, and the interior is the plaster (instead of dry wall). I’m worried I have mold growing in the wall.

Are there any home remedies I could try to remove/kill the mold? If I should call a professional, do you have someone you could refer?

Matt
